An offer is circulating on social media platforms including Facebook, WhatsApp, Twitter, emails etc. with the title of Huawei New Year Gift. An unknown website link is being received by the consumers and states Huawei is providing free New Year Gifts.
The majority of the users are unaware of scams and deceived by looking logo of Huawei. This scam resulted in stealing of the user’s personal information i.e. personal pictures, videos, messages and contacts, and sometimes passwords.
On clicking of this link, users lead to an unknown site which displays new year gift and cash prizes. All you have to do is open the gift box in three tries. It asks three questions after opening the gift box and after clicking the mentioned three questions website states that you are qualified for a new year’s gift.
Further, it asks to share this link with 5 groups or with 20 friends. This link gives users 600 seconds validity to avail chance and when a user clicks on the “continue button” to receive the get, it starts stealing personal information of the user.
An official of the Huawei Company stated that;
“there was nothing from the Chinese leading company Huawei regarding sharing of free gifts. The hoax is globally circulated from unknown websites and the company has nothing to do with it.
Further, such frauds use much-known companies’ logos to deceive the public. Huawei neither run any of such promotions nor have any relation to these circulating hoax.
The company warned the people to be vigilant when encountering such websites as participating in it may result in personal data, identity theft or other frauds.”
